June Report

This month we had some big events with some visitors from Florida. This is the first place we have worked and we already don’t like the goodbyes as June is our last month with the church in Salmon.

Church Camping Trip

In June, the church in Salmon goes camping! About 45 minutes out of town is Twin Creek campground. It was a good time to share food, fun, and fellowship. Every evening we had a lesson and sang together. The theme this year was God’s Family.

Ladies Class

Every Thursday, the ladies get together for Bible study and fellowship. This was a great way for Cara to get to know some of the ladies and looked forward to this time every week.

Road Cleanup

Every Spring and Fall the church cleans the highway that comes into town from the North. Everyone wears orange and grabs the orange trash bags. We picked up trash for several miles along Highway 93. There is also a sign for the church along this stretch of road.

Mission Group From Palm Beach Lakes

We have been looking forward to this group coming up to Idaho! They traveled all day and got to Salmon at 2:30 am the next morning. At 7:00 am they were up and ready to work. The first thing we worked on was helping get this sidewalk poured in the parking lot. It allows people to park close and walk on the sidewalk into the building which is very important in the winter when the parking lot is frozen.

Another aspect of the trip was hanging flyers and evangelistic materials on the doors around town. We hung the information on 1100 homes in a community of 3100 people.

When you are working with the church anywhere typically the best part of the trip is the time spent with the local brethren. The members opened up their homes to the group and we had such a great time. Some of our crew really enjoyed the baked beans, possibly too much. We also learned about “woof’ems” canned biscuits cooked on a dowel rod over the fire. When they are crispy they are filled with pie filling and whipped cream. Then you woof’em down. One of the members is a geologist and works for the Forest Service. He and his family took us up to Meadow Lake to enjoy God’s creation.

Sunday we had 64 people in attendance when the normal attendance is around 35. One of the members had 16 members of his family visiting plus our 9 from Florida and the house was full. Here we are gathered to pray before the potluck meal.

It was great to get to see these people from Florida. Working with them “in the field” was a blessing to us and to the church in Salmon.

Looking Forward

Our time in Salmon has gone by too quickly. We arrived as strangers and feel like we are leaving as family. We leave Sunday, June 30 to start making our way to Central Florida Bible Camp in Eustis, FL. From there we will make our way to Cherokee, NC. Please be praying for safe travels.
