August Report

Hello every one! We have been in Cherokee, NC for a month now. Below you will find our report about what has been happening.

Cherokee, North Carolina

Cherokee is unlike other cities in the United States. It is the capital of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation. There is a lot of beauty and history in this area. I have included a link to a video about the area if you would like to check that out.

The church in Cherokee

I do not know the history of the work here. However, I have heard that this work has always needed outside help and support from area congregations. Currently there are about 15 souls that worship here on a regular basis. That swells as visitors come in from all over. Since we have been here we have as as many as 35 on a Sunday morning. There are no evening services but we gather around the table on Wednesdays for a meal and a Bible study. The members are very inviting and have been a pleasure to work with. They are accustomed to visitors coming and going and lending help during their time in Cherokee. They are currently in the search for a full time evangelist. There is a parsonage on the church property that they are in the process of renovating for the next preacher.

Our work consists of getting out into the community and teaching the brethren of the congregation. I am finishing a study of the book of Revelation that was started by another before I got here. We are also working on leadership, organization, and cleaning up the church building and parsonage.

We also attended the local High School football game. Two of the youth are involved in the band and the flag team. It was fun to come out and support them. It was a classic Friday night lights event.

Some Other Happenings In August

Before we ever arrived in Cherokee, we had to stop in Atlanta and get the trailer aligned as one of the tires was getting eaten up. That tire only had ten thousand miles on it and it has been replaced.

August also kicks off with the kids going back to FHU. We were able to go over and help them move in and get set up. This is Josiah’s birthday month so we got to be there with him to celebrate.

Some people remember August for Polishing the Pulpit time. We are just over the hill from Sevierville where it takes place. We were able to attend a few days. Hang out with some friends and enjoy some great lessons and singing.

Looking Forward

We are happy to announce that we have our 2025 calendar year booked. We will talk more about that as we get closer to January. Please keep the church and our efforts in your prayers as we work here until the end of October.
