We hope this report finds you and yours doing well after the storm. We have been in Cherokee, NC for two months now. Below you will find our report about what has been happening.
Flooding in North Carolina
By now you have probably seen a lot of coverage of the flooding in Western North Carolina. While this storm did impart a large area of the Southeast, some areas are worse than others. Cherokee did have some flooding but it was not like Asheville or the other hard hit areas that were washed away. This image below is of our campground I took Saturday after returning from a mandatory evacuation order. It was a little hire than this at the peak but there was no damage to the campground or our RV. The campground is a forty acre island with creeks on both sides and only one bridge for access. That was why we were ordered to leave.
This is the river park in the center of downtown Cherokee. Cara and I walked the dog here just a week ago.
These are the road closures and warnings that we are getting here. We are right in the middle of this Western area of NC. Cara was in Costa Rica for a work conference. She was not able to fly back into Asheville. She went to Nashville where she has family. Hopefully roads will open up this weekend so she and our kids can make it over here for their college fall break.
The church building in Cherokee did not receive any damage. There was a small leak that allowed the carpet to get wet in a few places but that was the worst of it. Please continue to pray for those that have been affected by this storm and flooding.
September Events
I am continuing to teach and preach and work with the church here in Cherokee. They are a great group of brothers and sisters. We are also enjoying being invited to support the local football and band. Some the kids from church are in the band and color guard.
Cara was invited to speak at the Ladies Day at the Charlotte Avenue church of Christ in Rock Hill, SC. From what I heard, she did a good job. I know that she was very prepared for the topics she was assigned. Super proud of her.
Looking Forward
We are putting together a trip to visit our supporters in November and December. Hopefully we will see you on the road.
